However much we love London at night, there’s no denying that the pretty city lights make star gazing a little tricky.
There is nothing quite like standing beneath a sky so vast you you’re totally stumped for words, full to the brim with never ending stars. It’s beautiful, it’s romantic, it’s absolutely fascinating and just plain magical.
We’ve put together five places you’ll find clear skies, a billion stars and a load of luxury too!
FINNISH NORTHERN LIGHTS WITH SCOTT DUNN, FINLAND
Start off at Beana Lapoinia, translated directly as ‘Dog Lapland’, so no surprise here that husky sledging is on the activity list. This boutique hotel is a hideaway in the wilderness, ideal for spotting those starry skies whilst having a glass of wine in the outdoor hot tub. You will then move on to stay at the Golden Crown Glass Igloos (yes, it’s exactly how it sounds, and yes, we’re already booking our flights!) These remote glass igloos have uninterrupted views of the Finnish wilderness and night sky, lie in bed and if you’re lucky you may even see the dancing Aurora Borealis. If you are not too tired from being mesmerized by the night sky, watch the sunrise from the warmth of your bed and just appreciate this simply stunning location.

THE ELEVEN EXPERIENCE AT DEPLAR FARM, ICELAND
The Fljót Valley on the Troll Peninsula houses Iceland’s most remote and luxurious lodge, Deplar Farm. Totally off grid, from November to mid-March this place is a great spot for a glimpse of the elusive Northern lights. Think floor to ceiling windows (for optimal star gazing), geo-thermally heated outdoor pools (for optimal chill out) and Iceland’s 2018 chef of the year (for optimal eating, of course!)

SINGITA PAMUSHANA, ZIMBABWE
Located in a 130,000 acre wildlife reserve, perched on top of a sandstone ridge, Singita Pamushana has 270 degree views of the Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve. During the daytime, enjoy game drives, guided safari walks and community visits, then as the sun sets the alfresco dining begins. Finally, enjoy the flickering cliff-top fire pit whilst observing the Milky Way in the bright and spectacular African night sky. We like to call this a ‘star-fari’!

THE DARK SKY ALQUEVA RESERVE & SÃO LOURENÇO DO BARROCAL, PORTUGAL
By day this 200 year old country estate boasts never ending views over vineyards and olive groves and houses a spa you’ll be returning to again and again. By night, experience the protected Dark Sky Alqueva Reserve with residential experts on hand to answer all your questions, guide you through the cutting-edge technology and point out constellations. A place with no light pollution meaning you can stargaze almost all year-round. Day and night, we think São Lourenço Do Barrocal has got it down to a tee.
