When a chocolate company’s mission is to make a real difference to the chocolate-growing community, the planet and the chocolate-lovers, you know you’ve struck (chocolate-covered) gold… Otherwise known as, Island Chocolate.
Unlike many other companies (who will buy in beans from far away locations to make artisan chocolate in Europe), Island Chocolate do everything at origin. And by this we mean the family-run farm in in St. Vincent & the Grenadines (yes, it’s as stunning as it sounds). From growing and harvesting the cocoa to turning it into chocolate as we know it, absolutely everything is done at source.
“It’s the only fully sustainable and traceable way of making chocolate” explains Wilf Marriott, Founder and Chocolatier “…being Seed-to-Bar gives us complete control over the final flavour of the chocolate, enhances local job opportunities and is much better for the environment. That’s the beauty of it. Everybody wins!”
A LITTLE CHOCOLATE EDUCATION:
The company creates hundreds of meaningful jobs for islanders (paying well above Fair Trade’s recommended rates), supports community projects and has planted 300,000 trees. If that’s not reason enough to choose Island Choccie this Easter (oh, and the fact that the chocolate itself is out-of-this-world delicious), we don’t know what is.
