In a nutshell, we’re positively smitten with Lennon & Birdie’s prints, flags and our favourite, her clay rainbows. Behind this beautiful little shop is the talented, Nicole, who we have had a ball getting to know. We talk all things motherhood, life in BC Canada and kitchen table dreams…
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR FAMILY…
We’re a creative family. My husband works in the film industry in Vancouver and plays nearly every instrument under the sun in his spare time.
I’m an artistic dreamer with an old soul. Our daughters are a beautiful mix of us both. There is a lot of singing, kitchen dance parties and messy paint projects in our home. We strive for a simple and intentional life. Looking for those slow moments in the every day, taking them in and embracing them together. We always tell our girls that our home is a safe place where only love can grow.

WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND YOUR LITTLE ONE’S NAMES?
My oldest Lennon Ivory Michelle (7) is named after the great John Lennon for his peaceful warrior spirit, Ivory is for my husband’s love of playing the piano. And Michelle is for my sister, a strong creative who against all odds is a survivor.
And I must say, Lennon shows all of these qualities and is truly her namesake. She is this strong beautiful trail blazer that shows compassion to others and to our planet with a strong passion for music.
Our Ivy Luna Bird or Birdy (3) was born on the first day of spring during a solar eclipse. When the doctor passed her to me I swear she was glowing. Since that day she’s been a bright light in our lives. So happy and positive, she’s always smiling and singing.
FAVOURITE THING ABOUT MOTHERHOOD?
Defiantly watching my children learn and grow. It’s literally like watching a miracle unfold before our eyes every day. They find magic in everything they do. It reminds me of moments of being a child myself. And of corse all the hugs and kisses, they’re so full of love. They make my heartache but in the best way possible. Being a mother is my most favourite thing ever!
AND HARDEST THING?
Sending your babies off into the world without you. And not having complete control over the things they see and hear. I wish I could keep them nestled in a safe little bubble forever. It’s hard knowing what the right thing is for them all the time. We tend to trust our gut and do what feels right for us. Sometimes I get these moments where I’m wondering when the adults are going to show up!
HOW DO YOU TAKE YOUR COFFEE?
Slow drip with a touch of cashew milk.
TELL US ABOUT LENNON & BIRDIE AND HOW IT ALL CAME ABOUT…
Lennon and Birdie is the home of my imagination. It’s where I can create freely with no expectations. It wasn’t started as a source of income. It was a birth place for my dreams to materialise for my peace of mind. My hands ached to create. When folks started to feel my work and reach out to me it was this crazy mind blowing thing that I can’t even put into words. And since then it’s honestly just grown organically. I have a head over heels love affair with handmade pieces. I started at my kitchen table almost 8 years ago. I work when my girls are at school or sleeping. It’s not always easy to fit it in with two young children but It truly feeds my soul. I take advantage of the small windows of time I have in the day. I’m incredibly lucky and honoured to be creating pieces for other people’s homes. It feels like a dream to me still.
WHAT HAS HAVING A BABY TAUGHT YOU ABOUT LIFE AND PERSPECTIVE?
Oh gosh! So much. To let things go, choose your battles, to slow down and enjoy this moment in time. To truly notice the energy you put out into the world because it really effects people. And to practise gratitude daily… Just to name a few.
FAVOURITE THING ABOUT BC CANADA?
How everything around us is so alive. The smell of our fresh air and the sun hitting the mountain tops. It’s so surreal. We spend every free moment we can exploring the great outdoors. It’s so healthy for our children and they really crave it. We’re so lucky to be surrounded by such beauty, to live within the mountains and so close to the ocean. To us it’s the greatest place on earth.
WHAT ARE YOU LOVING RIGHT NOW?
I’m loving the opportunity to work with my hands on the daily, to create the things I wish to exist and share them with the world and have such a warm welcome from my peers. It’s been so wonderful really connecting with the artist community on IG and in real life. I’m exited to continue creating.
