Meet Jenny Constable: Teacher, mama, and pretty darn good at taking gorgeous photos for the ‘gram… Also known as: Jen and Cub. Based in Lincoln, Jen is an advocate for turning the littlest things into the greatest adventures. We stumbled across her beautifully captured world and before we knew it, we were chatting beach days, toddler tantrums and the best spots in Lincoln…
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR FAMILY
My husband and I met at university and moved back to his home town of Lincoln (UK) almost 10 years ago after graduating. We have a very wilful, very determined yet very gorgeous and sweet 2 and a half year old, Caleb.
WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND YOUR LITTLE ONE’S NAME?
Caleb was known as baby Wilkinson for a day whilst we tried to decide on a name. We hadn’t settled on any boys names, just girls names as we kept the sex a surprise.
We loved the name Gray but when he was born it just didn’t seem to fit. By chance, I found a screen shot in my phone of the name Caleb that I’d saved months previously (originally my husband had vetoed it). As soon as I saw it shortly after he was born, I knew that was it and luckily my husband agreed this time. We used Gray as his middle name. Caleb Gray. Caleb is from the Hebrew and means faithful. I honestly couldn’t imagine him being called anything else and I’ve never met another Caleb!
FAVOURITE THING ABOUT MOTHERHOOD?
As corny as it sounds, the purpose it has given me. There is no greater love and no one can prepare you for it. At each stage I declare it my favourite but I have to say as Caleb gets older I love the interactions we have. The conversations, the laughs, the hugs, kisses and the “I love yous”. I love watching Caleb grow and develop. I feel as much as I teach him day to day he teaches me tenfold. It’s incredibly enriching. He’s also the person I want to be around the most.
…AND HARDEST THING?
Motherhood is hard. The lack of sleep. The tantrums. The constant worry and pressures of am I good enough. Will I do right by him. I worry about his future, I worry if he’s had enough for dinner, I worry about the unkind world he will experience as he grows up, his first heartbreak and so on. I know all I can do is bring him up to be the best possible version of himself and hope that serves him well.
HOW DO YOU TAKE YOUR COFFEE?
I don’t and I think that’s where I’m going wrong!
FAVOURITE WAY TO SPEND THE DAY WITH YOUR CLAN?
Out adventuring. No phones, no connection to the real world, just us. Usually at the beach eating ice cream.
FAVOURITE SPOT IN LINCOLN?
The Bail Gate in Lincoln is steeped in history and is architecturally beautiful. It’s home to Lincoln cathedral and Lincoln castle as well as some quaint pubs and yummy restaurants. Lincoln isn’t where I’m from originally but I love it now as though it were. The atmosphere in the summer months is as electric as in the winter months and Christmas markets are world famous here.
If you time it right you can wander around the Bail and miss the crowds of people completely and it’s hard to believe you are in the city centre.
WHAT HAS HAVING A BABY TAUGHT YOU ABOUT LIFE AND PERSPECTIVE?
That life is short and fleeting. Time is a thief and robs you of your newborn and before you know it they are almost 3!! It makes me grateful for every moment I get to spend with my little family. It’s taught me a lot about who and what matters in life and I’ve prioritised. I changed my job role after having Caleb as I knew I would never get this time back with him and I want to put him first. At times, I found it challenging to let go of the old me but I’ve whole heartedly embraced it and I’m still me, just a different (improved) version. I’m more than ok with that. A new season of life has come with brand new chapters!
WHAT ARE YOU LOVING RIGHT NOW?
That we are heading into spring. Lighter evenings and warmer months are coming and it fills me with hope of new adventures and making memories to last for a lifetime.
