Born in Kuwait and raised in Oman, Sophie has been an explorer from an early age. Her international childhood exposed her to a wealth of different colour, materials and traditional skills – all of which are all now key components to the Sophie Anderson brand.
Launched in October 2011, Sophie Anderson started as a collection of vibrantly designed hand woven bags, all created in Colombia by WAYUU weaving communities. The initial group of three artisans has now grown, and Sophie works with over 750 Wayuu across Peru and Colombia, using each of the groups’ unique skills to incorporate different weaves and techniques across the brand.
Sophie is proud to be a significant part in bringing such profound income to what is Latin America’s poorest region, and is keen to keep the essence of the brand; A combination of pioneering ideas and antique techniques incorporated into a variety of materials and textiles to create something truly unique.
Sophie Anderson’s original best-selling bags now sit alongside an accessories range featuring straw sunhats, leather bags, structured baskets and a variety of dyed fine grass crocheted hair slides and bands, and are stocked worldwide.
Now a businesswoman as much as a designer, Sophie is based in London and lives with her husband, three daughters and cat. Her dedication to create the finest quality product from the most natural materials available is what roots the brand and alongside the contemporary designs and ever-growing collection, Sophie Anderson is now a label which is just at home on the streets of Notting Hill as it is in the fashionable traveller’s suitcase.
Available at Net-a-Porter, Matches, Harrods, and Selfridges in London and has loyal celebrity fans including Uma Thurman, Naomi Watts, Sienna Miller and Thandie Newton.
